Introduced in 1982, along with the 1/10 oz Coin, this 2017 version of the 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin is in its 36th year of production. This coin, like its predecessors, is minted with fine gold of .9999 purity, weighing one quarter troy ounces.

Each coin bearing the face value of 10 Dollars (Canadian) in Brilliant Uncirculated condition shows no sign of wear and tear. However, manufacturing defects are known to sneak in during the striking process from time to time .

Royal Canadian Mint, the sovereign Mint of the country, was established in 1908 to eliminate the dependency on the Royal Mint in London. As of now, two facilities of the mint exist, one in Ottawa and the other in Winnipeg.

The obverse face of the coin depicts a neat portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Taken in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, the image depicts Her Majesty's right profile. This portrayal makes it the third depiction of the Queen on a coin.

On the reverse face of the coin, depicted is the iconic sugar maple leaf in the center. Around the maple leaf, purity along with metal used and weight of the coin are mentioned. Both faces of the coin contain a series of laser-cut radial lines to fight counterfeit versions of this coin. For added security, the Gold Maple Leaf also boasts of a microscopic engraving of the year of issue.
