The Perth Mint’s popular Silver Lunar Series II is back, this time celebrating the year 2018 with these 1 oz 2018 Year of the Dog Silver Coins. This release will be the second last release under this famous coin program, which is supposed to end in 2019 with the Year of the Pig.

Each of these coins contains 1 troy ounce of 0.9999 fine silver. Moreover, every coin carries $1 (AUD) face values, and thus, is considered legal currency in Australia. However, the face value assigned to government-backed bullion coins like these are merely symbolic in nature, as their silver value far outstrips their face value.

The obverses of these 2018 Year of the Dog Silver Coin displays the familiar Ian Rank-Broadley rendition of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s right-profile effigy. This side is common to all Australian coinage with legal tender status.
