The Queens Beasts coin series was started in 2016 by the British Royal Mint. It was created as an ode to the beasts that stood watch at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. The White Horse of Hanover’s history can be traced all the way back to 1714 when the crown of Great Britain passed to the Elector George of Hanover.

The Royal Mint mints the Gold ¼ oz Queen’s Beasts Coins using gold with a purity of .9999, similar to their Gold Britannias.

The obverse is very similar to that of all other British Gold Coins. It features Queen Elizabeth’s right-facing profile set against a diamond-like background pattern. Surrounding her are the words “ELIZABETH II”, “D.G REG. F. D.”, & “25 POUNDS”.

The reverse of the coin features its namesake: the White Horse of Hanover with a shield displayed in front of the horse. The shield is split into four sections. The first shows the leopards of England and the lion of Scotland in the top-left, the fleur-de-lis of France in the top-right, the Irish harp in the bottom-left, and the bottom-right shows the Arms of Hanover. Around the central design are the coin’s name: “WHITE HORSE OF HANOVER” and the specifications of “1/4oz FINE GOLD”, “999.9” & the year of “2020”.

Queen’s Beasts White Horse of Hanover are available in gold in both this quarter-ounce weight and the heavier one-ounce weight at the lowest premium online over the current gold spot price.
