The White Horse of Hanover is the second release of two in the 2020 Queen’s Beasts coins. The first design was the White Lion of Mortimer, which was released by the British Royal Mint in early 2020. Each new release in the Queen’s Beasts is produced in a two-ounce silver coin and in gold, they are minted in weights of ¼ oz and 1 oz.

All Gold Queen’s Beasts Coins are minted with .9999 pure gold, like all other gold coins produced by the British Royal Mint.

The obverse is very similar to that of all other British Gold Coins. It features Queen Elizabeth’s right-facing profile set against a diamond-like background pattern. Around her image are the words “100 POUNDS”, “ELIZABETH II”, “D.G.”, & “REG F.D.” The DG REG FD stands for “Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensor” which is Latin for “By the grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith”.

The reverse of the coin features its namesake: the White Horse of Hanover with a shield displayed in front of the horse. The shield is split into four sections. The first shows the leopards of England and the lion of Scotland in the top-left, the fleur-de-lis of France in the top-right, the Irish harp in the bottom-left, and the bottom-right shows the Arms of Hanover. Around the central design are the coin’s name: “WHITE HORSE OF HANOVER” and the specifications of “1 OZ”, “FINE GOLD”, “999.9”, “2020” and the designer’s initials “JC”.
