The Queens Beast Coin Series was started by the British Royal Mint in 2016 to honor the ten beasts that stood guard at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. Each year the mint releases two new designs in the weights of 2 oz of silver, 1 oz of gold, ¼ oz of gold. They then follow with the same design in a 10 oz of silver and a 1 oz of platinum weights in the next year. For example, this White Horse of Mortimer will be released as a 2 oz silver coin, 1 oz gold coin, and ¼ oz gold coin in 2020, but its 10 oz silver and 1 oz platinum will not be released until 2021.

The Royal Mint of Britain produces Silver Queens Beasts Coins using .9999 pure silver, as customary to almost all British silver coins.

The obverse is very similar to that of all other British Silver Coins. It features Queen Elizabeth’s right-facing profile set against a diamond-like background pattern. Surrounding her are the words “ELIZABETH II”, “D.G REG. F. D.”, & “5 POUNDS”.

The reverse of the coin features its namesake: the White Horse of Hanover with a shield displayed in front of the horse. The shield is split into four sections. The first shows the leopards of England and the lion of Scotland in the top-left, the fleur-de-lis of France in the top-right, the Irish harp in the bottom-left, and the bottom-right shows the Arms of Hanover. Around the central design are the coin’s name: “WHITE HORSE OF HANOVER” and the specifications of “2oz FINE SILVER”, “999.9” & the year of “2020”.
