First minted in 1979, the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf Coin quickly became a favorite among bullion enthusiasts. Originally the coins were only minted in a 1 oz size, it wasn’t until 1994 that the 1/20 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coin was introduced.

Opened in 1908, the Canadian Mint was originally a branch of the British Royal Mint and was used to mint gold sovereigns. In part due to the great depression, the mint was able to negotiate its independence in 1931, changing their name to what we know today, the Canadian Royal Mint. The original mint location in Ottawa is still used to this day, however they have since opened a new location in Winnipeg, where not only gold and silver bullion coins are minted, but also the currency for over 70 countries world-wide.

Continuing tradition, the obverse of the 2020 Gold Maple features a side profile of Queen Elizabeth II. This design was first introduced in 2003 and has been used on Gold Maples since 2005. In addition to Her Majesty’s likeness, the obverse of the coin also shows the Queen’s name, the monetary denomination, and year of issue of the coin.

The exceptionally detailed iconic maple leaf embellishes the reverse of this 1/20 oz coin. This design has remained largely unchanged since the Gold Maple coin series’ inception. Encircling the leaf are the metal type, weight, and purity of the coin.

The Canadian Maple Leaf is a popular coin among collectors and investors alike. And When you shop with SD Bullion, you can do so confidently knowing that you are always getting the best price online. So pick up a 1/20 oz Gold Maple and lock in at the current gold price today.
