The design

The obverse displays the Mexican Seal. In the image, the golden eagle is perched on a pear cactus with open wings while defeating a rattlesnake. It is a symbolic view of the Mexican victory over foreign domination. The words engraved on this side are: “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.”

The reverse depicts the Roman goddess of victory as an angel: the Winged Victory, which became a monument in Mexico City and a symbol of the nation’s freedom. The inscription that surrounds it refers to the coin’s information: weight, metal content, year of issuance, and purity, through “½ ONZA ORO PURO” and “LEY .999.”

The Reverse Proof Finish

The Mexican Mint first released its proof coins in 2004, but the reverse proof finish only became part of its catalog in 2018. Since that year, the Mint has produced a limited series with this special finish.

NGC RP-70 Coins

NGC stands for Numismatic Guaranty Company, a grading service for coins and items alike that evaluates and grades them according to their condition and authenticity. The NGC has been active since 1987 and graded more than 52 million coins, which granted it worldwide recognition.

70 is the highest grade for a coin. It means that the coin analyzed does not show clearly visible post-production imperfections.
