The Design

The Silverback Gorilla is the motif that names the series. Considered an endangered species, this gorilla is native to many parts of Africa, including Congo. It tends to live in groups of five members and higher places. Hence it is also known as a mountain gorilla.

Each annual release portrays the Silverback Gorilla in a different position. The 2022 edition brings the animal in an upstanding position with raised arms as it is beating its chest. The obverse displays the coin’s weight, purity, metal content, and issuance inscriptions through “ONE OUNCE 999 SILVER” and “2022.”

The reverse showcases the Coat of Arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with the inscription “REPUBLIQUE DU CONGO” arching above the seal and the face value of the coin, “500 FRANCS CFA,” on the bottom rim.
