The Design

Jesus Christ is the motif that names this collection.

On the coin’s obverse is a full-body depiction of Jesus along with the Chi-Rho, a symbol formed by superimposing the first two letters Chi and Rho (XP) from the name Christos in Greek.

The reverse features the Coat of Arms of Samoa. The inscriptions on this side provide the weight, metal content, purity, face value, and mint year. On the upper rim, it also reads “SAMOA,” and on the bottom, engraved on the shield’s banner, the national motto: “Fa’avae i Le Atua Samoa,” meaning “God be the Foundation of Samoa.”
