The Design

On the coin’s obverse, Jesus Christ is represented by a full-body depiction, standing next to the Chi-Rho symbol on the right face of the design, one of the earliest forms of Christograms. The Roman Emperor Constantino long used this symbol as a military standard. It is composed of a superposition of the letters XP, “chi,” and “rho,” the first two of the word CHRISTOS in Greek.

On the reverse, the engravings relate to the coin’s metal content and the country that guarantees its denomination. The Coat of Arms of Samoa stands in the center of the image, surrounded by the words: “1 TROY OUNCE”, “SAMOA,” “2022”, “9999 FINE GOLD”, and “20 TALA”.
