2022 1 oz Proof Gold Libertad Coins

Struck for the first time in 1983, and after that only in 2005, Proof Gold Libertads are a must-have in any coin collection. Besides their high levels of fine gold, these coins received a mirror-like finish highlighting their beautiful design. 

With this year's mintage level expected to be similar to last year's limit of 500 coins, these are not expected to last long!

The Design

The proof finish imprinted on the piece makes the design of these coins more attractive.

The obverse showcases the various versions of the nation’s seal. On the center is the current Coat of Arms surrounded by the words “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.” 

The reverse is a portrait of the Winged Victory symbolizing the Mexican Independence from Spain. It is also a 17-foot statue atop the monument dedicated to this landmark in Mexico City. On this side, the words engraved read: “1 ONZA ORO PURO”, “LEY .999”, which means one troy ounce of .999 pure gold, and the year of mintage.

The Limited Editions

Proof coins usually have a limited number of units struck, which increases their value in terms of rarity. In 2021, for example, the Mexican Mint produced only 500 proof coins. In 2022, the number increased slightly, but not that much: only 1.300 units.
