The Libertad Design

The Libertad design has followed the same patterns since its release in 1981, themed around the Mexican Independence.

The obverse showcases the eleven designs created for the National shied over the years. The emblem settled in the center of the coin is the current Coat of Arms, and the words “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS” circulate it.

The reverse depicts two symbols of Mexican freedom: the Winged Victory, in front of the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The inscriptions on this side reflect the coin's weight, metal content, and purity through the phrases: “1 ONZA ORO PURO”, “LEY.999”. The year of mintage is also present.

The Reverse Proof Finish

Contrary to the proof coins, the reverse proof coins receive special treatment on the relief of the coin, so the relief becomes brighter, and the background gets a frosted appearance. Thus, the design becomes more visible and detailed to the touch.
