The Design

The obverse features the current Mexican Coat of Arms in a central position and other ten previous versions of the national seal. Around the main image, the words are: “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.”

The reverse depicts the Winged Victory, a symbol of Mexican Independence, which dates back to 1821. The engravings on the coin’s rim refer to its weight, metal content, and purity: “1 ONZA ORO PURO” and “LEY .999.”

The Proof Finish

The proof finish aims to bring to the coin’s design some contrast between the image imprinted in relief and the background. While the relief gets a more detailed polishment, the background receives a mirror-like luster, which makes the image clearer.

PF-70 is the highest grade attributed to a proof coin that does not show imperfections. The NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company is in charge of establishing global standards, evaluating and grading coins based on their condition and authenticity.
