The Design

The obverse is where the image of Jesus stands. The whole depiction of a peaceful Christ stands in the center. The Chi-Rho symbol of His name is inscribed on the right face of the design. The combined characters are the first two Greek letters of the word CHRISTOS. It was used for a long time by the Roman Emperor Constantino as his military banner.

The reverse displays the Coats of Arms of Samoa and the nation’s motto: “Fa’avae i Le Atua Samoa,” which means “God be the Foundation of Samoa.”

The other inscriptions describe the coin’s weight, purity, metal content, year of mintage, and face value.
