The Design

The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II, head of State of New Zealand, and its associated nations, like Niue. Raphael Maklouf is the artist who portrayed Her Majesty’s bust. Along with the image, the inscriptions read: “QUEEN ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE TWO DOLLARS,” “2022,” and “2 OZ 999 FINE SILVER.”

The reverse features the biblical scene, and as the coin is not minted with a limiting rim, the design occupies the whole surface. In the image, Jesus seems to hold a kind of rope while he puts away the people and products sold in the sacred temple. Imprinted beneath the image is the name of the episode “CLEANSING THE TEMPLE.”

These two-ounce silver coins received an antique-proof finish, which gave them high relief, making the design details easily noticeable and an ancient aspect, as they belonged to that time.

The Biblical Series

The Biblical Series debuted in 2015. This year, it strikes the 43rd from the 60 coins planned. Each coin showcases an inspired design from a famous scene described in the Bible. The depictions are originally by Gustave Duré, a renowned French artist.
