The Britannia Program is a symbol of the high quality and experience of the Royal Mint. As is with many other gold bullion coins available in the market, the Gold Britannias are available in the traditional 1 Troy oz size, along with three fractional sizes 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz.

The Design

The obverse of the Gold Britannias depicts Queen Elizabeth II in a portrait by Jody Clark from 2015. Her Majesty had her right-profile bust designed wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. Around the image, besides Her name, “ELIZABETH II,” face value “10 POUNDS,” the letters “D. G. REG. F. D” stand for “By the grace of God, Queen” in Latin.

The reverse is a creation of Philip Nathan specially made for the series. Britannia is represented as a warrior, carrying the Union Jack Shield and a trident facing the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The information engraved on the outer rim refers to the coin’s weight, metal content, fineness, and mint year. They read: “BRITANNIA,” “2023”, “1/10 oz,” “999.9,” and “FINE GOLD.”

Security Features

Since the 2021 edition, the Britannias brought new security features on the coin’s reverse side. Two elements lie on the background image, representing wave texture motion as you change the angle of view. The padlock on the lower left of the reverse design also changes to a trident head as you look at it from different angles. A third feature is on the Union Jack Shield. It contains micro-text engravings.
