These American Silver Eagle coins minted by the United States Mint bear the distinction of being 1986-S 1 oz American Silver Eagle specimens that were assigned a grade of PF-70 Ultra Cameo by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. In fact, they belong to the year that saw the launch of the successful American Silver Eagle coin program. Indicating an American Silver Eagle coin in absolutely perfect condition, PF-70 grades guarantee coins with no postproduction imperfections even at 5X magnification.


Each of these NGC-graded Proof coins contains 1 troy ounce of 0.999 pure silver, in addition to the $1 face value assigned by the United States Government. Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) has been the official grading service of the American Numismatic Association (ANA) since 1965 and the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG) since 2004. Thus, when the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) assigns a grade of 70 on the Sheldon Grading Scale, an industry standard, there is little doubt regarding the quality of these 1986 American Silver Eagles.


The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman’s beautiful Walking Liberty design, originally used on U.S. Silver Half Dollars from 1916 through 1947. On the other hand, the reverse depicts John Mercanti’s rendition of an eagle and a shield, symbolic of American strength and pride. Over three decades of American Silver Eagles later, these graded coins offer collectors and investors a chance to snag the very first releases under this program. Moreover, the fact that the total number of 1986 American Silver Eagles to earn the coveted PF-70 Ultra Cameo grade from NGC sits at only 1260 coins, which makes them a valuable addition to silver coin collections indeed.
