The 2012 Perth Mint Year of the Dragon Silver Coin was the fifth release in the Perth Mint Lunar Series II. The Lunar Series II ran from 2008-2019. Due to the overwhelming popularity of the series, it has been continued on with the Lunar Series III; starting with the 2020 Lunar Year of the Mouse Silver Coins.

The 2012 Year of the Dragon coins are minted using one troy ounce of .999 fine silver. There were just 300,000 of these coins produced by the Perth Mint, which has resulted in an excellent premium appreciation which only looks to continue to increase in the coming years as there are less of them available in the market.

The obverse features a gorgeous rendition of a dragon wrapped around the “Pearl of Wisdom” that often accompanies a dragon in Chinese culture. The Chinese character for “dragon” is also minted next to the dragon. The words “Year of the Dragon” are minted at the very bottom of the coin

The reverse features the iconic side profile of a young Queen Elizabeth with “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA”, “1 DOLLAR”, “2012”, & “1 OZ 999 SILVER” minted around the circumference of the coin.
