1 oz Silver American Eagle Design

Released annually by the U.S Mint, the American Silver Eagle, along with its gold coin counterpart, the American Gold Eagle, had their first change of reverse design mid-2021. The series was introduced in 1986. It is the official silver bullion coin of the United States. Many experts consider it one of the most successful bullion programs in the world, with NGC and PCGS-graded issues from their first year being a favorite among collectors.

The obverse of the 2022 Silver American Eagle presents the iconic “Walking Liberty” portrayal by Adolph A. Weinman. The image first appeared on the 1916 half dollar coin. Since then, it has turned into a classic design. Lady Liberty is depicted mantled by a waving American flag, pacing towards the dawning horizon. The Goddess holds branches of laurel and oak in her left arm, while reaching forward with her right one. The national motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” sits to the right of her leg. The word “LIBERTY” is on the coin’s upper edge. Inscripted below the motto is Weinman’s artist mark, resembling the characters “AW”. Underneath the Goddess’ feet is the mint year “2022”. 

On the reverse of the Silver American Eagle coin is the new flying eagle design, conceived by designer Emily Damstra. Replacing the previous heraldic eagle reverse, America’s national bird is depicted amidst flight. The bald eagle holds an oak branch in its talons, approaching landing, as if to add it to its nest. Surrounding the image, the inscripted letters read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER” and “ONE DOLLAR”. Above the coin’s weight is the national motto, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. 

Mintage

All bullion Silver Eagles inside the 2022 Silver Eagle Monster Box are minted using 1 troy ounce (31.103 grams) of .999 fine silver. The silver coins hold a diameter of 40.6 mm (1.598 in) and are housed in 20 individual coin tubes that hold 25 coins each. The American Eagle silver coin weighs 1 ounce, while the American Gold Eagle is minted in weights of 1 ounce, ½ ounce, ¼ ounce and 1/10 ounce.

The U.S Mint operates in four coin-producing facilities, the Philadelphia Mint, the Denver Mint, the San Francisco Mint and the West Point Mint. The Monster Boxes are sealed both horizontally and vertically before they are sold, as a security measure. All Silver Eagles are hand-examined, and their counting of 20 coins per tube is checked.
