The Design

The obverse depicts the fifth portrait of the longest-lasting monarch Queen Elizabeth II. The bust, which dates back to 2015, features an 89-year-old queen wearing the George IV Diadem Crown. The words engraved on the outer rim read: “10 POUNDS,” “ELIZABETH II,” and “D. G. REG. F. D,” which means “By the grace of God, Queen” in Latin.

The reverse features the symbol of Henri VIII’s protection over his new wife, Jane Seymour. The yale is a mythic creature with horns, a goat's body, and a lion's tail. In the image, it supports the Arms of Jane Seymour in a sign of defense. The inscriptions surrounding the beast read: “YALE OF BEAUFORT,” “10 oz,” “FINE SILVER,” “999.9”, standing for the beast’s name, the coin’s weight, metal content, purity, and the year of issuance.

The Tudor Beast Series is a creation of the British Royal Mint to honor the Tudor Dynasty through the heraldic beasts sculpted in stones and settled along the Moat’s Bridge in the Hampton Court Palace.
