The Design

The obverse displays the new Martin Jennings’ design of King Charles III’s effigy. The Latin inscription surrounding the borders of the coin reads “ CHARLES III - D - G - REX - F - D - 2 - POUNDS - 2022,” which can be translated as “Charles III, by the grace of God, King, defender of the Faith.” 

The image shows Britannia, the national personification of Britain as a helmeted female warrior, standing against the wind with the Union Jack Shield and her trident representing her naval history. Bordering the picture, the inscriptions read “BRITANNIA”, “2023”, “1 oz,” and “‘999 ‘ FINE ‘ SILVER’,” corresponding to weight, fineness, and metal content.
